Documentary Requirement

I. Demand Deposit

1.Individuals

• Valid and renewed ID card of Kebele or employer organization or Driving license or passport, or Farmers Association.

2.Individual Traders

• Valid and renewed ID card as stated under 1 above
• Photocopy of renewed Trade License, Registration certificate and TIN.

3.Private limited Company

• Renewed Trade License, Registration certificate & TIN in the name of the company.
• Memorandum and Article of Association attested registered and sealed by Document Authentication and Registration office.
• Letter of Request to open and operate the account signed by the authorized person stated in the memorandum and Article of Association and sealed by the company’s official stamp.
• Valid and renewed ID cards of the authorized persons to operate the account.

4.Share Company

• Renewed Trade License in the name of the Company.
• Memorandum and Article of Association attested, registered and sealed by Document Authentication and Registration office.
• Minutes of the Board of Directors to open and operate the account
• Valid and renewed ID cards of the authorized person(s) to operate the account.

5.Foreign Business organizations

The attorney will submit the following documents after being authenticated by appropriate bodies in Ethiopia together with the application.

• Notarized minutes, of resolution passed by the authorized organ of the business organization evidencing a decision to open a branch in Ethiopia and investment permit.
• Certificate of incorporation of the business organization.
• Authenticated power of attorney from the H.O of the foreign business organization abroad to ensure that he/she is a legal agent.
• Letter of request to open and operate the account signed by the legal agent and sealed with an official stamp.
• Valid Passport or residence permits of the authorized person(s) to operate the account.

6.Local Non-Government Organizations

Shall produce the following documents

• Certificate of Registration from FDRE Ministry of Federal Affairs Charities & Societies Agency.
• Letter of support from the above Agency to open and operate the account.
• Memorandum and Article of Association attested and registered by Document Authentication and Registration Office.

7.Public Enterprises

• “Negarit Gazetta” for its establishment.
• Letter of appointment of the General Manager for its establishment.
• Letter of request to open and operate the account by General Manager.
• Valid ID card of the authorized persons.

8.Association & clubs

• Certificate of registration from their respective organizing authority.
• Rules and regulation of the association that bears official stamp of the organizing authorized .
• Valid ID cards of the authorized persons to operate the account.

9.Trade Unions

• Certificate of registration from ministry or Regional Bureau of Labor and Social affairs.
• Approved and registered rules and regulation of the trade union.
• Resolution of the general assembly appointing the executive committee.
• Letter of request by the chairperson to open and operate the account.
• Valid ID card of person(s) authorized to operate the account.

II.Saving Account

1.Individuals

• Valid & Renewed ID card
• Two passport size photographs

2.Coorperatives,Association & Other organization

• Present the required documents that legalize its identity from the concerned government authority.
• Valid and renewed ID cards of person’s who operate the account.

3.Company Accounts

• Authenticated Memorandum and Article of Association
• Letter of request to open and operate the account in line with the memorandum and Article of association signed by the manager and sealed with the official stamp of the company.
• Valid and renewed ID cards of the person(s) who operate the account.

4.Religiuos Organizations

(a)    The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church

• Support letter from the Patriarch or General Manager of A.A diocese secretariat or the Regional Bishop if the Church is located outside A.A to open and operate the account.
• Valid ID cards of the Person(s) who operate the account.

(b)   Islamic Religion

• Support letter from Ethiopia Islamic Affairs Supreme Council to open and operate the account.
• Valid ID cards of the persons who operate the account.

(c)    The Ethiopian Catholic Church

• Support letter from the Secretary General of the Ethiopia Catholic Secretariat to open and operate the account.

(d)   The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus

• Support letter from the president of EECMY.
• Valid ID cards of the person(s) who operate the account.

(e)    Other Religious Organizations

• Certificate of registration from the concerned government office.
• Valid ID card of the authorized person(s) who operate the account.

Others

Idir, Associations, Unions, Savings and Credit Associations and Clubs

• Certificate of Registration.
• Rules and regulation that bears official stamp of the  organizing body
• Letter of request by the chairperson to open and operate the account.
• Valid ID card of the authorized person(s) to operate the account.

III. Time Deposit

• Valid ID card of the depositor if the deposit is in cash or third party cheque or
• Letter of authorization to the bank to debit the existing account and transfer to Time Deposit.

IV. Non-Resident Transferable Birr account and Non-Resident foreign Currency Account

• Support letter from the appropriate organizations certifying that the applicant is an official member of the organization with a passport or its equivalent.
• Permit from the National Bank of Ethiopia to open the account.
• Valid ID card or passport of person(s) authorized to operate the account.

V.Foreign Currency Account for Non-Resident Ethiopia and Non-Resident Ethiopian Origin

The following individuals and/or enterprises may open a foreign currency account.

a/Non-Resident Ethiopian

b/ Non-Resident foreign National of Ethiopian origin.

    Non-Resident Ethiopians/Foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin shall present the following documents to open NR Foreign Currency accounts.

• Application forms properly filled and signed by the account holder.
• Valid passport and /or identification card of foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin of the applicant.
• For businesses, certificate of ownership entitlement for the organization and/or article and memorandum of association.
